Sandals Negril: The Beachfront Flagship, Reviewed Β· Photographed in guides.

Sandals negril sits on a quieter stretch of Seven Mile Beach, about a ninety-minute transfer from Sangster International. The property dates to 1988, with a major refresh in 2022 that rebuilt most of the swim-up suite category and updated the main buffet. Room count is around 222, and the flat footprint means almost every category has direct beach or garden access within a short walk.

The appeal is simple: this is the Sandals that most strongly leans on the beach. Seven Mile Beach is among the better sand strips in the Caribbean, and this section is calmer than the central strip where the day-party boats cluster. Travelers who prioritize beach quality above everything else consistently rate this property highest in the portfolio.

What sandals negril actually offers

Dining runs ten-plus outlets, with Kimonos (Japanese hibachi), Barefoot by the Sea (beach seafood), and the Bayside buffet doing most of the volume. The adults-only pool is smaller than at the Montego Bay properties but faces the water directly. Watersports are arguably the strongest in the chain β€” calm flat water, full non-motorized gear, daily scuba for certified divers.

The bar scene at night tilts younger than the Montego Bay properties, with the beach bar open later and a more active dance floor. Not a nightclub, but the livelier end of what Sandals offers anywhere in the Caribbean.

If the beach is the reason you are flying to Jamaica, this is the property. The transfer is long, but it is the only one I can sell on the strength of the sand alone.

Strengths and weaknesses

  • 01Strength: direct access to the best stretch of Seven Mile Beach
  • 02Strength: watersports program, including daily certified-diver scuba
  • 03Strength: livelier evening bar scene than other Sandals properties
  • 04Weakness: ninety-minute transfer from Montego Bay airport
  • 05Weakness: older non-renovated rooms are noticeably dated compared to the 2022 category

What it costs and who it suits

Sandals negril currently runs $520 to $780 per couple per night in low season and $780 to $1,300 in peak winter. Swim-up suites and Rondoval-style categories push the top end past $1,400 during Valentine's and New Year's weeks. All rates are fully inclusive of meals, premium drinks, watersports, tips, and round-trip airport transfer.

It suits couples who prioritize beach over compactness, younger honeymooners who want more of an evening scene, and divers willing to trade Ochi's reef variety for calmer conditions. It is a weaker fit for couples on tight three-night trips β€” the transfer eats half a day in each direction β€” and for travelers who want a wider variety of off-property activity, since Negril is quieter than Montego Bay or Ocho Rios.

MAPL guests staying at sandals negril often add a Rick's Cafe cliff-jumping evening or a Seven Mile Beach snorkel with rum punch, both bookable separately at /explore. Those local experiences tend to be the hours people remember most from a Negril trip.
