Sandals Ochi: The Jungle-Side All-Inclusive

Sandals Ochi: The Jungle-Side All-Inclusive Β· Photographed in guides.

Sandals ochi is the largest property in the Sandals portfolio, and the only one with a clear split between two distinct environments. The beach side sits directly on a protected cove; the jungle side climbs up the hill behind it, connected by a shuttle that runs every few minutes until late. Room count is around 529, and the property dates to 1982 with significant expansion in 2015.

That split defines everything about the stay. Guests who understand it pick a side intentionally and rate the property among the highest in the chain. Guests who arrive expecting a single compact beach resort sometimes end up mismatched with the layout, which is reflected in a more polarized review profile than other Sandals properties.

What sandals ochi offers that no other property does

Sixteen dining outlets is more than any other Sandals anywhere, including Butch's Chophouse (steakhouse), Kelly's Dockside, and the island-party pier. The jungle side has its own large pool, a village of swim-up suites, and a quieter adult vibe. The beach side has the watersports dock, the main activity pool, and the nightly entertainment.

The dive program is the strongest in the Jamaica portfolio β€” north-coast reef access, more wall dives, and a dive shop that handles more certified divers per week than Negril or Montego Bay. Ocho Rios town is a ten-minute taxi away, which matters for guests who want to leave the resort for Dunn's River, Mystic Mountain, or the Nine Mile pilgrimage.

Ochi is a resort for guests who want options. Sixteen restaurants, two pool complexes, a jungle side and a beach side. It is not for travelers who want everything in one square.

Strengths and weaknesses

  • 01Strength: largest dining variety of any Sandals anywhere in the world
  • 02Strength: strongest dive and snorkel program on the north coast
  • 03Strength: jungle-side swim-up suites offer privacy other Sandals do not
  • 04Weakness: the shuttle between sides can feel like effort after a long dinner
  • 05Weakness: the beach is smaller than Negril's and less dramatic than Dunn's River

What it costs and who it suits

Sandals ochi currently runs $480 to $720 per couple per night in low season and $720 to $1,250 in peak winter. The jungle-side swim-up suites tend to be the best value in the property, priced around $650 to $900 per night most of the year. Transfer from Montego Bay airport runs about 90 minutes; Ian Fleming International in Ocho Rios is closer but serves fewer routes.

It suits divers, couples on longer trips (six-plus nights, where the variety pays off), and travelers who want quick access to Ocho Rios tours without giving up the all-inclusive wristband. It is a weaker fit for short trips, guests with mobility limitations who would struggle with the jungle side, and couples who want the compact feel of a smaller Sandals.

MAPL guests at sandals ochi frequently add Dunn's River Falls with the hidden blue hole or a Nine Mile Bob Marley heritage day, booked separately at /explore. The north coast is tour-dense in a way the west end is not, and Ochi's location turns that into a real advantage.
